April 3, 2026, Myakka City, Florida. A new personal best of 75.465% elevated Devon Kane (USA) to the top of the podium in the KB2 Construction CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle on Friday, April 3, 2026, at TerraNova Equestrian Center in Myakka City, Florida. Two judges rewarded Kane and the energetic 14-year-old Vamos, whose name means ‘Let’s go’ in Spanish, with scores over 77% to bag their first ever international win in their 35 CDI starts together.

Canada’s Olympic duo of Camille Carier Bergeron and her family’s 16-year-old Fidertanz x Donnerhall mare Finnländerin finished second by a whisker to an upbeat disco soundtrack. Last to go in the class of six, they recorded 75.385%, a difference of just 0.08 percentage points. Claire Darnell (USA) and her own 14-year-old Harrold S (by Vivaldi x Fidermark), whom she has produced to top level, bagged third place with a 74.365%, their second highest score since stepping up to grand prix in late 2022.

The class was a qualifier for the US Equestrian Open of Dressage, producing a major shake-up in the standings. With Kane’s additional 20 points for the win, she now lies in third place and Darnell has vaulted into second. TerraNova hosts another US Open qualifier during its next CDI (May 1-3) before the series final in California in November.

It has been a busy and fruitful early 2026 season for the Wellington, Florida-based Kane and her Diamante Farms barn family. While she was busy nailing her first CDI win with Vamos, her husband Kevin Kohmann was on his way to Texas to compete in the FEI World Cup Final (April 8-12).

“My main goal this weekend was just to do our best,” said Kane, who has been riding Vamos for seven years. “I always hope for a personal best every time I go in the arena, but with humans and horses, sometimes it doesn’t work out that way, so I just try to do the best I can on the day with what we have. In the grand prix we had a couple lackluster things [and finished fifth with 68.63%], but a good, clean test, so I felt really confident for today’s freestyle.”

Kane’s freestyle music for Vamos featured Latin beats and the song ‘Despacito’ by Luis Fonsi. The floorplan was adapted from a previous horse’s pattern with help from Petra Hoffmann.

“I love my music and I love dancing to this freestyle, and my horse loves it, too,” continued Kane. “Right before his saddle goes on, I play the music and give him scratches and cuddles. The way he relaxes when his music turns on is comforting for me too. I’m singing along and smiling out there the whole time.

“The choreography is quite difficult. We have a couple options, and right now we’re riding the medium difficulty option. There’s a higher degree of difficulty we can move to when we’re ready,” she added. “The US Open is definitely on my radar this year.”

Kane was full of praise for the show at TerraNova, saying: “The atmosphere is always absolutely amazing, and the showgrounds are so horse friendly. The feeling you get in the stadium with the flags over the lake, the pavilion, and all the fans cheering, is quite different than anywhere else I’ve shown, and it’s special. It’s particularly special for me with this being our first CDI win.”

Camile Carier Bergeron added a second blue ribbon to MSJ Valentia Roma’s collection, recording their second win in as many days in the CDI1* Intermediate I. In their seventh CDI small tour test together they recorded a huge new personal best of 72.206%. They topped their previous I1 high score of 68.853%, achieved in February 2026, by a significant margin, and led the class with a winning margin of almost five percentage points. The nine-year-old Vitalis x Donnerhall mare was the unanimous choice for all five judges, attracting a high score of 73.382% from Janet Foy (USA) at M.

The team element of the CPEDI competition concluded on Friday, with the U.S. team once again producing impressive performances to secure the win. Paralympic gold medalist Roxanne Trunnell’s 72.847% was the highest score across all grades on Friday, with the performance earning Trunnell and Furstenson MR the CPEDI3* Para Grand Prix B Grade I win in a hot class and relegating the previous day’s Grand Prix A winner, Marie Vonderheyden, to second.

Trunnell was riding Carol Daly’s 10-year-old Hanoverian Furstenson MR (by Fürstenball x Lauries Crusador xx) at just their second show together, setting a new personal record high score. Vonderheyden rode another Fürstenball son, Karin Flint’s nine-year-old Fan Tastico H, to 71.597%. Canadian three-time Paralympic athlete Jody Schloss was just fractions behind, rounding out the podium with 71.319% on her own 17-year-old gelding El Colorado, by San Remo.

Paralympian Kate Shoemaker rode her own 15-year-old Bojengel x Tuschinski gelding, Ghandi, to 72.793% to head up the Para Grand Prix B Grade IV. They brought the U.S. team, led by Ched d’Equipe Michel Assouline, up to a final total of 431.358 points, and an average counting score of 71.9%.

Competing as an individual, Shoemaker’s student Sienna Busking (USA) topped the Para Grand Prix B Grade III, flipping the script on the Para Grand Prix A test winner Rebecca Hart to claim the winner’s sash. Busking set a new personal best score of 68.667% on her own 15-year-old Damon Hill gelding, Damons Davian. Hart finished second with 67.389% on Rowan O’Riley’s 10-year-old Liberation, by Libertad.

Busking began para dressage a year ago and attributed much of her progress to Shoemaker. She lives with multiple serious medical conditions, including multiple sclerosis and a genetic mutation affecting her body’s connective tissues. She hails from Oklahoma but relocated to Florida in late 2024 to pursue her Paralympic dreams. This was Busking’s first time competing at TerraNova.

“I love that here we get to compete alongside the able-bodied grand prix riders and we can watch them,” she said. “This was just my second three-star show with ‘Desi’ and the goal was to give him some confidence-building rides, and we were able to do that.”

International and national dressage at TerraNova continues on Saturday, April 4, with the day’s marquee class, the Bridleberry Leather Tack Co. CDI3* Grand Prix Special starting at 8:15am ET. The para freestyle classes will determine the overall individual champion and reserve champion in the CPEDI. Watch the free TerraNova CDI livestream, sponsored by B&D Builders LLC.
