November 14, 2025, Myakka City, FL. Will Coleman and the 2012 gelding Diabolo (Diarado x Roulett M) delivered a seemingly effortless dressage test in the Leibold Irrigation CCI4*-S, an especially impressive performance considering this marks the horse’s return to the level after a long recovery from an injury.
Coleman and Diabolo enjoyed a strong partnership last season, winning the CCI4*-S at the iconic Kentucky Three-Day Event in April 2024 and later at the Morven Park International in October 2024.
However, the pair missed the Paris 2024 Olympics and a significant portion of the 2025 season due to Diabolo’s injury. Their comeback began with a run at the CCI2* level at Morven Park in September 2025.
Now, Coleman and Diabolo have made a confident return to the CCI4* level at The Event at TerraNova, starting the weekend atop the leaderboard after dressage and holding their lead after their stadium round.
The CCI4*-S stadium jumping phase produced no double-clear rounds, though several riders, including Coleman on both of his mounts, jumped clear with only a few seconds of time added.
Not only did Coleman and Diabolo hold onto their lead after show jumping, but his second mount, Fahrenheit Addict, climbed from fifth after dressage to second overall thanks to a clear round and just 0.8 time faults.
“I’m really happy with both my horses,” says Coleman. “Diabolo’s coming back after a long break, and there are definitely things we need to keep working on to get him back to peak form. This was his first four-star in over a year, so we were excited to bring him here and see where he stands in all three phases. He was a little fresh today, he’s got a lot of blood, but he tried hard, and I’m so lucky to have him. I think the world of that horse.”
As they head into cross-country, Coleman’s priority is to give Diabolo the ride that best supports their ongoing return to peak form at this level.
“He’s normally a great cross-country horse, but there’s a lot of jumping to do out there,” says Coleman. “The most important thing is to give him a good, confidence-building ride to finish the season on a positive note.”
After wrapping up the weekend at TerraNova, Coleman already has his sights set on a significant target for Diabolo next season.
“The plan for next year is hopefully to get him back to Kentucky,” says Coleman. “We haven’t mapped out the full season yet, but that’s the big goal. For Fahrenheit Addict, I’m not entirely sure what our spring aim will be, but I want to finish his year the right way. It’s his first season at four-star, and he keeps getting better. Hopefully, tomorrow gives us another good building-block phase, making him a better horse and me a better rider. I’m always looking for little ways to improve.”
The B&D Builders CCI4*-L wrapped up its dressage phase today with Phillip Dutton and Possante, a 2013 stallion (Namelus R x Wendelien) known as Impy around the barn, topping the leaderboard on a score of 26.8.
Their dressage score put them roughly three points ahead of Sydney Elliott and QC Diamantaire, who sit second on 29.3. Robyn Fisher, Valerie Pride, and Christina Klingspor judged the CCI4*-L dressage phase.
In September 2025 at Plantation Field International in Pennsylvania, just 15 minutes from where Phillip and his wife Evie operate True Prospect Farm, Dutton led nearly the entire competition and won the CCI4*-S aboard Possante.
Unfortunately, their next outing in October 2025 didn’t go as planned. Impy’s bridle unexpectedly broke on course, resulting in a fall and unfinished competition. Now, the pair have put that incident behind them and are aiming for another top spot on the leaderboard at The Event at TerraNova.
After a couple of years together, Dutton and Impy have developed a well-established partnership at the upper levels.
“He’s been competing at this level for a while, this is his second season at four-star, so he’s pretty comfortable here,” says Dutton. “It’s beautiful here at TerraNova, and I’m glad to be back at it, even though our last outing was just one of those weekends. He’s a very talented horse, fun to be around, a real gentleman who always wants to please, and absolutely stunning to look at. When he goes in the dressage ring, he has such presence.”
Topping the leaderboard in today’s CCI4*-L dressage phase, Possante delivered a strong overall test.
“We had a few moments that weren’t perfect by any means, but he still scored very well,” says Dutton. “When we first entered the arena, he was a little wary of the judges’ boxes and tightened up a bit. Then, in the trot half-passes, usually one of his strengths, I must have surprised him, and he dragged behind and didn’t do them as well. But he walked beautifully and cantered really well.”
Looking ahead, Dutton remains focused on the next phase and what Possante needs most heading into cross-country.
“I’m not too worried about stadium jumping yet, that’s still a long way off,” says Dutton. “There’s a lot to do on cross-country first. We’ll head out there knowing it’s a tough course and aim to give him the best possible ride to keep him confident. We’ll see where we land after tomorrow.”
The CCI4*-L cross-country phase begins tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, November 15, 2025, followed by the show jumping phase on Sunday, November 16.
The Event at TerraNova marks the conclusion of the 2025 FEI eventing season in the United States. This event also serves as the second qualifier out of only 20 in total for the 2026 USEF Eventing Open Series.
